Consumer Evaluations
After flying my S107 for a couple of weeks I did not count on any micro coaxial helicopter to best it for fun. I was wrong...
The Avatar Z008 didn't fly really so easily at 1st. It was significantly more troublesome to sustain altitude. I didn't care for the dead stick throttle. It was also straightforward to get started the thing with blades spinning and then the mad rush to get it below control. I place a heavy rubber band across the controller to hold the throttle stick down. This was a little ugly but helpful. The trim for left/appropriate rotation necessary some interest for every single flight and the further weight more than the S107 created the Avatar drop significantly more quickly than I was applied to. Employing the outrigger motors was complicated to coordinate with the throttle for level sideways flight simply because they use the exact same stick.
I initially felt the S107 basically had the Avatar beat for enjoyable and efficiency. As I stated ahead of, I was wrong! It took approximately 10 flights and my entire perspective altered. Instinctively I was in a position to hold altitude and hover consistently. I began to get the feel for the side motors and could coordinate slides clear across the area with the fourth axis. I could rotate and move sideways at the very same time and even creep forward and reverse - it was feeling far more 3D all the time. Following an hour or so of flight time I was in a position to compare my new Avatar with my S107 and here is what I like about them both.
They each charge from my laptop in much less than 1/two hour. The Avatar charges up roughly 30% more quickly.
They both fly long adequate for me to welcome a break. In other words I was satisfied with the length of flight time. The S107 flies longer by about 30% but length doesn't equal good quality and like I stated, I am at all times satisfied when the batteries get low. I am ready to get recharged with the LiPos.
They each lift off steadily and with ease. Neither tends to make any dramatic lunges or spins. The Avatar does not shoot for the ceiling like the S107 when the batteries are at complete charge but the S107 appears to float additional readily as the Avatar takes a small a lot more concentration to keep it from sinking to the floor.
The S107 moves additional slowly than the Avatar by 50% or so but they each stop and turn promptly and accurately in the same manner.
I like to practice landings on little flat surfaces other than the floor. I've gotten excellent at it with each but considering that of the further 6 grams of the Avatar, my landings with it are improved. The little added mass appears to combat the buffeting of the air against the surrounding objects during landing.
Each are sturdy and durable. I have crashed the S107 extra sometimes and have replaced two rotor blades but it was the S107 that taught me to be cautious. Each have created solid make contact with against table legs and have fallen from heights. I somewhat believe that the Avatar's side motor nacelles tend to provide a little protection for the blades in some circumstances.
Due to the fact I've learned to use the two small motors on the sides of the Avatar, I have come to like them a lot. I get pleasure from the miniature roar when they are engaged and the challenge to maintain the Z008 at an even hover altitude. Leveling is by no means an problem. Both side motors come on when moving either left or proper, spinning in opposite directions. It is a special and pleasant feature and what causes me to decide on the Avatar when it comes time for a little fun.
The Avatar comes with some spare parts (blades) for the main, tail and side motors and a small Phillips screwdriver that does not seem to fit anything, which includes the IR control door for the batteries. I hope to not desire them but they are there if I do. I would unquestionably hope that spare components will come to be readily available on line as the Avatar deserves a following. When I come property from function, I look forward to a tiny fun and it is the Avatar Z008 that is on my thoughts.
UPDATE: As commonly occurs ideal right after a assessment is written, I managed to sheer the rotor shaft stopper pins. This is the component that locks the best blades to the shaft that turns them. I have located a supply for the portion but it is not in stock. I did have a couple of hours worth of enjoyable out of this toy and I hope to be in a position to fix it for some extra in the future. I could complain about the excellent but honestly, these items happen and any person purchasing an RC helicopter soon comes to recognize they are prone to these concerns.
My Z008 flew perfectly out of the box. I was shocked that charging occasions were about 18-22 minutes. When a side motor is engaged, you need to raise throttle in order to retain altitude. This took me about four-5 flights to master. At this point I was amazed at just how maneuverable this micro chopper truly is. It is in a position to outperform my Syma S107 in all categories except durabilty. I flew it for nearly 2 weeks without the need of incident. It suffered what I thought of to be a minor crash which broke the primary shaft stopper. This is the element the holds the leading blades in spot along with the connect buckles. I totally realized that obtaining replacement parts for the Z008 was going to be hard. For 1, it is a pretty new product. Also, as 90% of every thing, it is created in China. That getting mentioned, I have positioned a source for components and the link below need to help current and future owners. The component I desire is nonetheless unavailable, but it should really be in the near future. It is so considerably fun that I have regarded buying one more and turning my original into a parts donor. What stops me is the notion that this could fairly nicely be the Z008's Achilles heel. I like this chopper sufficient to invent a way to reinforce it. Had I received a defective example of a single of these tiny gems, I am particular I would feel differently and I can totally relate with that type of disappointment. Hope this helps.
